The Fire Prevention Division works to protect the lives and property of residents, businesses, and visitors to the City of Vineland using a combination of code enforcement, preventative inspections, and public education. Our team provides efficient, effective, and equitable service with the highest degree of professional integrity.

The Fire Prevention Division conducts regular inspections on all structures, except owner-occupied dwellings, to ensure compliance with State of New Jersey codes and Vineland municipal ordinances. This includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance of fire detection and prevention systems, proper emergency exit signage, accessibility to fire service personnel, handling and use of hazardous materials, and on-site storage practices.

Our office works closely with the Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) to ensure that all newly constructed structures are designed with the required fire protection and life safety systems built into them. We also perform test inspections to make sure all systems are working properly prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy. In addition, we work with L&I and other city departments to investigate complaints of hazardous conditions and the abatement or demolition of unsafe properties.

Finally, the entire Department maintains an active presence in the community at several special events throughout the year to help teach adults and children about fire safety. Additionally, we offer fire prevention demonstrations at Vineland Public Schools, and work closely with our Schools conducting Fire Drills and providing input for their safety plans. We are also available to assist the public with questions regarding a variety of topics such as fire extinguisher use, Smoke Detectors, Carbon Monoxide Detectors, and more.

The Fire Prevention Office is located on the 2nd Floor of City Hall at 640 E. Wood Street. The office is open from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; and is closed weekends and holidays. To schedule a Public Education Program, Lecture, Class, Fire Station Tour, or other appearance for your group, event, or school click here to fill out the request form and our office will be in touch to make the arrangements.
